Dear Georgian, This is the first of a periodic newsletter where I will keep you up to date on the work my team and I are doing on your behalf in Washington and in Georgia’s Tenth District. It has been a great first month. From the day I was sworn in, my team and I have been working to advance our shared values in Congress. The new Republican Majority in the House has been hard at work delivering for the American people and we have already passed bills to protect our Strategic Petroleum Reserve, prioritize acquired skills in federal hiring rather than college degrees, and stand with parents during this National School Choice week. We have also passed legislation to protect the sanctity of life for unborn children. We are only four weeks into the new Congress, and even though a lot has happened, we are only just getting started. With that, here are some highlights from our first month.

Dear Georgian,

This is the first of a periodic newsletter where I will keep you up to date on the work my team and I are doing on your behalf in Washington and in Georgia’s Tenth District.

Meet with Mike

Hosted “Meet with Mike” Listening Session in Jackson County

On January 19, the Jackson EMC hosted community leaders and me for a listening session for constituents from Jackson, Barrow, Clarke, and Walton counties, where I gave a brief update on my legislative agenda and took an hour of questions from constituents.

The top issues we discussed were the border crisis that has allowed illegal drugs to flow over the border and into Georgia communities and the out-of-control spending by the federal government that has saddled our country with an unsustainable debt. We also discussed concerns over the Chinese Communist Party buying farmland throughout the United States and House Republicans' plans to combat Chinese influence.

To do the best job for the people of Georgia’s 10th District, I need to hear directly from you. That’s why these listening sessions are so crucial to my success as your member of Congress. I look forward to meeting as many people as possible in the future so I can amplify your voice and fight for our values in our nation’s capital.

Attended Rotary Club Meetings in Butts-Jackson and Walton Counties

On January 17, I met with the Jackson-Butts Rotary club in my hometown of Jackson. I gave a brief legislative update to club members followed by a question-and-answer session. We discussed the recent devastating storms that tore through the counties and resources available to help our residents rebuild.

On January 19, I joined the Loganville Rotary club morning meeting with Former Loganville Mayor Dan Curry. I talked to constituents about my plan for this year and the great things House Republicans have accomplished thus far. In our discussions we discussed the new rules of the House and the upcoming debt ceiling.

It was clear from both discussions that Georgians are still struggling with rising prices and inflation. We must continue to lower costs for Americans families and fight to handle the out-of-control inflation.

Meeting with the United States Coast Guard

On January 25, I had the pleasure of receiving the Seal of the United States Coast Guard from Congressional Liaison Officer Lt. Iia Carter. We will proudly display the seal in our office to honor all Coast Guardsman - past and present - for your service to our nation.

Protecting American Strategic Petroleum Reserve

On January 27, I was proud to vote for the legislation to protect our Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). In the last two years, our reserve has been depleted to its lowest level in decades, much of it sold to our enemies like the Chinese Communist Party. It is a top priority for me to stop the selling of our oil reserves to China and to refill the SPR. Energy security is national security.

January 25 REINS Act Press Conference: Click Here to Watch

One of the first bills I co-sponsored as a member of Congress is the REINS Act, authored by Representative Kat Cammack of Florida. If enacted, this bill will force federal agencies to get the approval of Congress to implement major regulations. We want to “rein” in the federal bureaucracy and ensure the American people have an advocate when Washington is making rules!

Axios| House GOP freshmen boycott White House event over COVID protocols

Several House Republicans are declining invitations to attend a White House reception for freshman House members on Tuesday evening in protest of the event's COVID-19 rules.

Why it matters: It's an example of the broad Republican effort to have the administration's policies reflect President Biden's statement in September that the pandemic is "over."

It also denies the White House an opportunity to make potentially crucial inroads with Republican lawmakers, including at least one from a district Biden won in 2020.

Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) "has moved on from the pandemic and doesn’t plan on attending anything that still requires testing," his spokesperson DJ Griffin told Axios.

The Monticello News | Rep. Mike Collins Hosts Community Meeting

A number of businessmen and community leaders sat down Tuesday afternoon with Rep. Mike Collins in Jasper County to get to know the Congressman and their express concerns about what will happen in Washington in the coming months.

The meeting was put together by Development Authority of Jasper County Chairman David Dyer, and former state Rep. Susan Holmes introduced Mr. Collins to the group, several of whom already knew him.

Mrs. Holmes said that Rep. Collins was raised to be a leader, and has long been active in church and community. He said that his sons basically run the business (Collins Trucking), freeing him up represent this area in Congress.
