Dear Georgian, We’re cruising by Mile Marker #25 on rough road with the looming government shutdown that begins on October 1 if a funding bill is not enacted. As you may know, I want Congress to get back to passing 12 appropriations bills annually and using that process to get rid of wasteful spending and rein in federal agencies. As we work toward that goal, the House passed a short-term continuing resolution (CR) last week, with my support, to keep the government open and buy more time for President Trump and congressional leaders to negotiate a longer-term government funding bill. Right now, the CR awaits action by the U.S. Senate. I will keep you up to date with all relevant information as we work to stop the Democrat shutdown.

Dear Georgian,

We’re cruising by Mile Marker #25 on rough road with the looming government shutdown that begins on October 1 if a funding bill is not enacted.

Capitol Hill Highlights

It's always great to have Georgians visit us in Washington to let us know how we can help. Last week, the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce came in for a discussion on transportation and technology issues facing Georgia. Our state is growing rapidly, and we need to build new roads to safely accommodate additional traffic, a vital issue as the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee works to write a bill to reauthorize federal highway programs later this year.

I also met with the Georgia Independent Automobile Dealers Association to talk about how Congress and the Trump administration can continue supporting small businesses by cutting red tape and providing a regulatory environment that allows American entrepreneurs to thrive. As a small businessman myself, I know how hard it is to build a business from the ground up and keep it growing. A top priority of mine is to get the federal government off your back and out of your pocket.

My team and I also enjoyed learning from the Georgia Port Authority, Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers, the Associated General Contractors of Georgia, the Transportation Intermediaries Association, and others, about important issues facing our state and country during meetings last week.

Down In the District

It's an honor to tout hardworking Georgians for what they do for our communities, and I'm proud to recognize Barrow County Coroner Kenneth Cooper for being named the 2025 Coroner of the Year by the Georgia Coroners Association.

We also must salute World War II veteran Luther Ausburn of Monticello for celebrating his 100th birthday!

Mr. Ausburn answered the call to serve our nation, and it is a blessing to have him with us in Georgia's 10th district. We wish him and his family the best.
