Dear Neighbor,
We're cruising by Mile Marker #11 and it's time to talk about what's been happening these past few weeks in Washington!

It's a new year, and as the deadline approached to finalize funding for fiscal year 2024 spending bills, Congress voted to pass another Continuing Resolution (CR).
As your Congressman, I am committed to doing everything in my power to reduce government spending, secure our borders, and reign in an out-of-control bureaucratic state. I voted against this spending bill because it failed to address these major issues facing our country.
While I understand Speaker Johnson inherited a budget mess in the middle of the fourth quarter, I cannot support, nor can our country sustain, a continuation of Nancy Pelosi's and Joe Biden's reckless spending—but that's exactly what this legislation did.
We are weeks away from beginning fiscal year 2025 appropriations and have yet to finish 2024 spending bills. That is unacceptable. It's time for Congress to do the job the American people sent us here to do, immediately.

As a businessman from the trucking world, I'm always watching the industry's back.
During a recent Transportation and Infrastructure Committee hearing on "The State of Transportation," I told witnesses that I believe trucking is one of America's most taxed and regulated industries in America, and it's time for that to change.

National Park Service Backlogs
Over in Natural Resources, our committee discussed the significant maintenance backlogs crippling the National Park Service.
As with most things in the federal government, leadership, not a lack of money or resources, is the problem.

Protecting Fish & Wildlife
In another recent Natural Resources hearing, I asked witnesses why the National Park Service is prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives over its duty to preserve and protect our nation's fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats.

USPS Operations Breakdown
After hearing from folks across Georgia's 10th Congressional District about various issues with mail service facing communities across the state, I led a Georgia Delegation letter to US Postmaster General Louis DeJoy demanding an explanation and a solution.
To date, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has refused to provide an answer.
Let me be clear, this lack of response is unacceptable. The taxpayers they serve (you) deserve better, and I am currently considering the next steps to promptly resolve this situation. To read my press release on this matter, click here.

Introduction of the RAZOR Act
In light of the Supreme Court's decision directing Border Patrol to temporarily remove razor wire installed by the state of Texas at known illegal immigrant hotspots, last week, I unveiled the RAZOR Act. This legislation would prohibit the federal government from removing Texas' or any other state’s border barriers.
Since President Biden took office there have been more than 8 million illegal crossings nationwide, with at least 1.7 million known "gotaways." On the U.S. southern border alone there have been over 6.7 million who have crossed illegally, as well as 312 on the terrorist watchlist encountered by U.S. law enforcement.
If the Supreme Court won’t allow states to defend their sovereignty and our nation, Congress has a moral imperative to act.

Service Academy Nominations
|
After a thorough selection process, I was proud to announce the nomination of 32 Georgia students as candidates for America’s military service academies.
These young men and women represent some of the finest that Georgia has to offer. They are each highly motivated, intelligent, physically fit individuals with strong moral character, who I am confident will progress well in the service academy appointment process.
I look forward to seeing what the future holds for them as they aspire to lead in our United States Armed Forces! To read the full press release, click here.

2024 Congressional Art Challenge
High school students throughout Georgia's 10th District are once again invited to participate in this year's Congressional Art Competition. Students may submit two-dimensional entries, such as paintings, drawings, photos, computer-generated art, collages, and prints, for consideration.
The first-place entry will be exhibited in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year, and the winning student will receive two round-trip tickets to attend a national reception in Washington, D.C.
This annual tradition is a terrific opportunity for students to showcase their creative talents, and I look forward to seeing the submissions from our talented young Georgians across the 10th District. To register and view competition guidelines, please visit my website.
