Dear Georgian,
Today marks the 24th day since Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats voted to shut down the government by refusing to vote for a bipartisan short-term continuing resolution.
Democrats have voted 12 times to shut down the government, and just this week voted against giving federal workers pay during the shutdown.
On September 19th, I voted for a clean, short-term funding bill to keep the government open that:
- Funds the government until November 21st so that we can keep the government open and allow the full-year appropriations process to move forward.
- Is the same nonpartisan CR package that the Democrats voted for 13 times during the Biden administration.
- Gives $50 billion for rural hospitals that was allocated in the Working Families Tax Cuts.
Democrats are demanding:
- $200 BILLION in health care for illegal aliens.
- $1.5 TRILLION in new wasteful spending.
- $500 MILLION for media outlets.
- BILLIONS for foreign social programs.
House Republicans did our job by sending the same continuing resolution package that Democrats voted on 13 times before. It is time for Democrats to stop holding Americans hostage and open the government so that our country can recover and Congress can continue to negotiate appropriations legislation.
A continued government shutdown means:
- Hurricane Helene relief for farmers is delayed.
- Federal employees will miss a full month's paycheck.
- Delays at major airports.
- Staffing shortages at federal departments.
- Limited services at the Department of Veteran Affairs.
- SNAP and WIC benefits for 1.4 million Georgians will not be available.
As the impacts of the shutdown increase, please do not hesitate to call my offices if you have any questions or comments.
My offices in Washington, D.C., and Monroe, Georgia, will remain open through the duration of the shutdown. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my offices.
